Margaret Atwood es, hoy en día, una de las escritoras más importantes del panorama literario de Canadá y prototipo de la independencia para las mujeres. Ha escrito poemas, ensayos y novelas y es precisamente en lo último en lo que vamos a centrarnos, en dos novelas que tratan sobre actitudes y relaciones humanas: Lady Oracle y The Edible Woman. Estas obras no sólo serán analizadas en detalle sino que también serán estudiadas desde el punto de vista del humor, siguiendo en especial la teoría de Regina Barreca. El objetivo principal es, así pues, desvelar el propósito de su uso en la escritura de Atwood y ver si el humor es un instrumento para expresar la diversión o si, por el contrario, una estratagema consciente.
Margaret Atwood is, nowadays, one of the most representative female writers of Canada and a prototype of independence for women. She has written poems, essays and novels, but in this case we will concentrate on the latter, on two novels which are about human attitudes and relationships: Lady Oracle and The Edible Woman. However, not only will these works be analyzed in detail but also looked at from the point of view of humour following especially the theory of Regina Barreca about it. The main objective is, therefore, to bring out the purpose of her use of it in his writing, and to see whether humour is just a funny pun here and there or, on the contrary, a device.
