El antiguo mito de la Diosa madre aparece recreado y actualizado en la obra de Cristina Peri Rossi, integrado en sus poemas hasta constituir una explicación del mundo y de la naturaleza femenina. La mujer celebrada en ellos reúne los atributos tradicionales de la "mujer-diosa", en especial la ambigüedad y la multiplicidad de rostros: mujer creadora y destructora, sagrada y profana, arcaica y moderna, virgen y pública, instintiva y civilizada... En estos poemas, el misterio y la multiplicidad de lo femenino encuentran su correspondencia en el misterio y la multiplicidad de las lenguas. A partir de aquí, Peri Rossi reflexiona sobre el poder creador del lenguaje y, en última instancia, sobre el poder creador de la poesía.
The ancient myth of the Mother Goddess appears in the work of Cristina Peri Rossi, integrated within her poems as a means of explaining the world and woman's nature. The woman celebrated in her texts acquires the traditional attributes of the "goddess-woman", especially her ambiguity and the multiplicity of her aspect: creative and destructive, sacred and profane, archaic and modern, virgin and public, instinctive and civilised... In these poems, the mystery and multiplicity of femininity find their correspondence with the mystery and multiplicity of languages. Peri Rossi writes about the creative power of language and, ultimately, about the creative power of poetry.
