Demographic trends indícate the need for early foreign-language instruction in the twenty-first century. One program that serves the elementary school population is FLAME-designed to provide early FLES/FLEX extra-curricular training. The article discusses research available on the benefits of foreign-language learning at the elementary level, the objectives and implementation of FLAME over the course of a decade, and finally, provides examples of curricular materials in use at a five-language elementary-school program.
