En este artículo claramente divulgativo pretendemos recopilar unas cuantas menciones a Afrodita y Eros (junto con sus correspondientes nombres latinos, Venus y Cupido) en la música de nuestro tiempo. Fijamos nuestra atención, más concretamente, en el género musical que se conoce con el nombre de rock, un género que nace en Norteamérica a finales de los años 50 como consecuencia de la fusión de otros muchos géneros musicales como el jazz, el country & western o el rhythm & blues. En un principio y por su misma naturaleza, las letras de rock eran poco profundas, basando toda su fuerza en el ritmo. Pero poco a poco, con la consolidación del género y su legitimación como música apta para cualquier público, los letristas buscaron argumentos en campos tan a priori alejados de la música popular de nuestro tiempo como puede ser la mitología clásica, con su acervo de imágenes, temas y personajes que han terminado convirtiéndose en recurrentes; y qué duda cabe de que en las canciones de tema amoroso –de las más comunes que aparecen en el rock-, Cupido y Venus junto con todos sus atributos afloran con bastante asiduidad.
In this clearly informative article we aim to compile a few mentions of Aphrodite and Eros (along with their corresponding Latin names, Venus and Cupid) in the music of our time. We focus our attention, more specifically, on the musical genre known as rock, a genre that was born in North America in the late 1950s as a result of the fusion of many other musical genres such as jazz, country & western or rhythm & blues. At first and by its very nature, rock lyrics were shallow, basing all their strength on rhythm. But little by little, with the consolidation of the genre and its legitimation as music suitable for any audience, lyricists sought arguments in fields that a priori were so far removed from the popular music of our time, such as classical mythology, with its wealth of images, themes and characters that have ended up becoming recurrent; And there is no doubt that in songs about love - the most common ones that appear in rock - Cupid and Venus along with all their attributes appear quite frequently.
