The paper consists of two parts: I. An introduction dealing with historiographic data, principles of etymological research and selected problems of Kartvelian etymology. II. The main part of the paper is organized, as follows: 1) The frame of Kartvelian etymology, 2) Loan word strata in Kartvelian, 3) On the investigation of the inherited vocabulary, 4) Perspectives on future research.
