The data capture of the place name from Trubia The Coritu peak or The Coritu in a place name research made by this author, was the starting point to make him study about the term Coritu and its possibie origins. The current meaning is quite clear in the modern dictionaries (DALLA), it seems to be also quite clear the correspondence of the physical signs with the meanings given to the current place namefrorn Trubia. Despite this, in a second step, the search for alternatives took us to the well known articie by Canellada where the term coritu is used during the Golden Age to describe the Asturian people. This place name would be easily explained frorm this point of view: the Asturian people who migrated to the city, not very well seen, wearing just some animal skins and leather, would give reason to the use of the term coritu with which the Castillian people would call thern. The semantic change towards the meaning of "naked" or shaved seems easy. This conception of naked would penetrate in the language and would be the one that gives sense to our place name. But the acceptation of the origin of the term in the Spanish Golden Age would lead us to accept quite a modern origin for the place name what does fol seem probable. As a consequence the following questions appear in a natural way: Which is the real age for the term coritu? What is the real age for the use of the term as to describe the Asturian people? Is it for sure the theory that Canellada mentions which relates the term with the meaning "leather" and what relates it just to this field? The latter investigation searching for an earlier start for this term took us surprisingly to the Virgil's Eneida as we were able to find out references that allowed us to date the term coritu which was used as to define people from a place in Augustus' territories, sort to say, in the Astures area. All along this search, the different etymology possibilities helped to make things even more difficult. Our paper will try to clear ah these questions and some other related to them.
