Las gramáticas inglesas y los pronombres. Las gramáticas inglesas de finales del XVI y del siglo XVII: Estudio sobre el paradigma pronominal. A finales del siglo XVI se empiezan a publicar las primeras gramáticas vernáculas escritas en inglés como consecuencia del paulatino desuso del latín y el creciente uso de las lenguas nacionales como lenguas científicas. Estas obras se publicaron para dotar a la lengua inglesa de una gramática tan bien estructurada como la latina. El objeto de esta ponencia es analizar y comparar los diferentes esquemas seguidos por los gramáticos para alcanzar dicha meta. El estudio se basará en aquellas obras publicadas antes del gran auge literario del siglo XVIII. Las gramáticas escritas en inglés serán igualmente cotejadas con aquellas escritas en latín para comprobar si había alguna diferencia significativa en sus enfoques. También se analiza el grado de especialización y precisión lingüística encontrada en estas obras, lo que se ejemplificará con una visión más detallada de una sección de las gramáticas: aquella dedicada al tratamiento de los pronombres. Esta ponencia forma parte de un estudio llevado a cabo durante la investigación de mi tesis doctoral que versa sobre los significados de los distintos usos de los pronombres de segunda persona del inglés moderno temprano con especial.
The late sixteenth century witnessed the appearance of the first vernacular English grammars as a result of the ongoing decline of Latin and the continuing rise of English as a scientific language. The works first appeared as an attempt to provide English with a proper grammatical description as well-structured as that of Latin. The aim of this paper is to analyse the different outlines followed by the authors to achieve this goal. The study will be restricted to those grammars published before the literary outburst of the 18th century. I will compare the English grammars written in English with their Latin contemporaries to attest whether there were any significant differences in their approaches. The degree of linguistic specialisation and accuracy of these works will be equally surveyed. This will be further illustrated with a specific analysis of their treatment of the pronouns. This paper is part of a study I carried out as part of my PhD research on the meaning implications of the different uses of the second-person pronouns in the Early Modern English period, with a special attention to their use in Drama.
