During the last decades the advertising slogan has been subject of a large number of linguistic studies. Although there have been a lot of analysis of the slogan literature learns us that attempts to formulate an exact definition of the concept resulted in ambiguity. In this article we'll present a brief study on this matter. We will try to deduce the parameters needed in an attempt to formulate a much more precise definition of the slogan and this from a formal (morphosyntactic and lexical) as well as from a functional (pragmatic) point of view. At the end of the article we will present some reflections on a possible prototypical structure of the slogan and on the question if there are significant differences between languages.
