El objetivo principal de este estudio es indagar hasta qué punto observamos mantenimiento, amalgama y/o pérdida del léxico y sintaxis del español entre mejico americanos en un contexto estadounidense (Florida). Se llevaron a cabo entrevistas informales y orales, individualmente, a 10 participantes, que compartían características comunes: nivel de estudios, dominio lingüístico, descendencia y sexo. Quedó claro que existían indicios en los que el español se reemplazaba por el inglés a un nivel significativo. De todos los casos analizados, creo firmemente que una mayor investigación del sistema verbal (mayor lugar de conflicto) de sucesivas generaciones de hablantes bilingües de esta sociedad sería igualmente provechosa.
The primary purpose of this study is to explore to what extent we see maintenance, amalgam and/or loss of the Spanish lexicon and/or syntax among Mexican-Americans in a U.S. (Florida) context. Informal oral interviews were conducted individually with 10 participants, who shared four common characteristics: education, language, origin and gender. It was clear that there were signs of Spanish being replaced by English to a significant degree. Of all the cases analyzed, I truly believe that further research on the verb system (major site of conflict) of successive generations of bilingual speakers in this society could prove fruitful as well.
