En el canon literario del teatro español siglo xx, se destacan La historia de una escalera, Escuadra hacia la muerte, y Tres sombreros de copa - más por su significación histórica que por sus valores escénicos - y los autores de estos textos escribieron obras más innovadoras de extraordinarios valores estéticos y temáticos. Además, entre la riqueza de títulos pertenecientes al teatro post-lorquiano, hay muy notables obras de otros dramaturgos que merecen revalorización. Sin establecer un canon nuevo, mantengo que algunos títulos 'huérfanos' tendrían más interés que las obras consagrados para el estudiante y el investigador del siglo xxi.
In the literary canon of twentieth-century Spanish theatre, Historia de una escalera, Escuadra hacia la muerte, and Tres sombreros de copa stand out - more for their historical importance than their scenic values, and the three authors of these plays wrote more innovative works of exceptional aesthetic and thematic interest. Also, among the richness of post-Lorcan theatre, there are outstanding plays by other dramatists that merit re-evaluation and theoretical studies. Without attempting to create a new canon, I argue that these 'orphan' plays would have more interest than the canonized titles for students of theatre and researchers in the twenty-first century titles.
