Les formes no personals del verb han rebut, des de l’àmbit historiogràfic, poca atenció. De totes maneres, estudis generals sobre el verb o sobre autors específics han posat de manifest que les que actualment es consideren com a formes no personals dels verbs no han estat sempre enteses com a tals, ni tampoc amb el mateix grau d’aparent unanimitat teòrica. Aquest article analitza la categoria gerundi des de dos eixos metodològics: conceptualització i el procés de gramatització de la unitat durant la història. Tanmateix, estudiem amb detall (durant l’època preacadèmica, 1492-1771, tenint en compte el context sociocultural i teòric) qüestions relatives a: morfologia del gerundi, aspectes semàntico-funcionals, trets de caracterització, transferències interlingüístiques, així com l’anàlisi del procés de categorització del gerundi dins la historia del pensament lingüístic espanyol entre els segles XV i XVIII.
Non-personal forms of the verb have received, from a historiographical point of view, little attention. However, studies on the verb or on specific authors are em-phasizing that “non-personal forms” of the verbs are not always well understood neither explained. This article discusses the category “gerund” according to two methodological as-pects: conceptualisation and the gramatisation process of this topic throughout history. We also study in detail (during the pre-academic period, from 1492 to 1771, and taking into account the socio-cultural and theoretical context) the following issues: morphology of the gerund, semantic-functional aspects, features of characterization, inter and intralinguistic transfers and the analysis of gerund categorisation process in the history of Spanish linguistic thought from 15th to 18th century.
