Durante la época romana, la navegación progresó paulatinamente. Hacia el siglo II a. C., diversas circunstancias sociales y culturales, ajenas a la navegación, propiciaron su avance. Este desarrollo y la expansión de la Auctoritas Romana, hicieron que muchos mitos y leyendas sobre el mar y los confines del mundo, quedaran relegados a la literatura.
In Roman age, navigation progressed gradually. During the 2nd century B. C., there were social and cultural circumstances unrelated to navigation, which led to this same progress. This development and the expansion of the Auctoritas Romana, would allow many of the myths and legends that hitherto existed in regard to the sea and the confines of the world, were relegated to literature.
