Este ensayo pretende indicar la importancia de las traducciones españolas de los sermones del padre Antonio Vieira para estudiar tanto la primitiva lección original de los textos del gran predicador portugués, como su adaptación al público español. En la medida en que nos documentan redacciones distintas y sucesivas, estas traducciones se convierten en testimonios imprescindibles para la reconstrucción de la historia de cada pieza, con las modifi caciones a las cuales las sometió su autor en su paso del púlpito a la edición portuguesa definitiva.
This essay investigates the relevance of the Spanish translations of Father Antonio Vieira�s sermons, and tries to detect both the original versions of these texts, and the way they were adapted for Spanish readers. These translations document a variety of different, successive versions, and they are thus fundamental for the reconstruction of the history of each work, the changes introduced by the author when they passed from the pulpit to the printed defi nitive Portuguese edition included.
