It is usual to think in ‘games’ like something new, like an innovation, but the true is that this ludic aspect of them can be understood as a link between our modern society and the forgotten —but yet present— animal condition that remains in the human race. The purpose of this essay is talk over the debate that narratologists and ludologists have maintained about video games’ ludic specificity, discussing even a new concept as “cyber | literature”. For it, we will pay attention on diverse opinions about all this things, that we will use later to dissect the narrative features that define World of Warcraft, the most popular MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) in the present.
