Se presenta una caracterización de la ciudad de San Antonio, Tejas, y su área de influencia con intención etnolingüística: qué y cómo son la ciudad y el área, qué tipos humanos se han instalado allí a lo largo del tiempo y cómo han ido introduciendo sus rasgos culturales. El marco de todo ello es el ámbito de la lengua española introducida y desarrollada, mantenida o perdida por los grupos humanos que la llevaron consigo. El significado social del término etnografía y las actividades de los grupos humanos estudiados se restringen por lo tanto a los aspectos lingüísticos, si bien se mantiene la dimensión del estudio como percepción del mundo por esos hablantes.
This research aims at the characterization of the city of San Antonio, Tx, and its area within an ethnolinguistic perspective. This view embraces how the city itself was conceived and its development, which type of people arrived and dwelt in there and how they introduced their cultural features. The framework is the Spanish language, its introduction and development, its continuity or loss, all of it in connection with its users. The social meaning of the term Ethnography and the activities of the humans studied are therefore restricted to their linguistic aspects. Nevertheless, special attention is given to the cosmovision of those speakers.
