Saverio Guida has recently published an article concerning the polemical exchange between the Gévaudan troubadours Garin d’Apchier and Torcafol, describing it, rightly, as the « other side of the art of trobar ». An analysis of one of the poems in this cycle (a ten-line cobla composed by Garin d’Apchier) allows us to be more precise about what it meant by this term. The thematic — carnaval-like — putting-forward of lower bodily activity, against a poetic system already perceived as sclerotic, is accompanied in Garin’s case by a sophisticated and ludic conception of writing as linguistic play on language itself. The article includes in an annex an edition of this cobla.
