A high degree of specialisation is required in the translation of medical texts, so scientific popularisation can be used as a highly appropriate didactic resource for introducing this field of knowledge into the translation curriculum. Despite being a minor genre, scientific popularisation plays a vital role in society in both the audiovisual and the print media, and articles published in journals or newspapers, websites, or health leaflets are of particular interest.
This paper analyses the characteristics that define this textual genre at the micro- and macrostructural level, by presenting an overview of the particular morphosyntactic, rhetorical, and orthotypographic conventions of the field, without failing to address its deficiencies and errors. The objective is to elucidate the appropriateness of using this material in the translation curriculum in the French-Spanish language pair.
