Schools must be considered as a movement geared towards an integrated and levelled performance in the process of enlivening the language. Schools, by themselves and by their single influence, are not able to enliven the language. It is only the complex formed by the family-neighbourhood-environment (which complement each other) that can fulfill that main effort to enliven the language of young children. Thus, schools form only a small part of that effort involving a much wider process, and they must be linked more carefully within the whole process.
This article concerns a point raised during the 1st Congress of the Basque Public Schools and it was published in a book edited by the Basque Government. It has been re-edited here with special permission from the Education Department and Mr. J. A. Fishman himself.
Hizkuntza biziberritzeko pauso-urratsen jokaera integratu eta mailaz mailako baten aurrerapide gisa erabili behar da eskola. Hizkuntza ezin du eskolak berekabuz eta bere eragin hutsez biziberritu. Haur txikiengan hizkuntza biziberritzeko ahalegin nagusi hori familia-auzobizigiroek eratzen duten konplexu osabetezkoak soilik eraman dezake aurrera. Ahalegin horretan beraz, prozesu askoz zabalago baten zatia baino ez da eskola, prozesu osoaren baitan kontu handiagoz uztartu behar dena.
Artikulu hau Euskal Eskola Publikoaren I Kongresuko ponentzia izan zen eta Eusko Jaurlaritzak horretaz kaleratutako liburuan argitaratu zen. Hezkuntza Sailaren eta J. A. Fishman jaunaren beraren baimen bereziz berrargitaratu da hemen.
