William Mackey of Quebec, is one of the foremost sociolinguists in the world. He is currently a professor at the University of Laval and has acted as a consultant for language policy. He is the author of hundreds of articles and dozens of books and has also done research on the Basque Country. We have had a long conversation with him in a relaxed setting. We are especially concerned with our local situation and problems but also concerned with experiences in Canada and Ireland which could serve as a learning model for us: the importance of language skill, social movements and administration, language transmission, language transmission in the family, teaching, etc. The reader will be able to find all of this and more from the perspective of a knowledgeable master.
William Mackey quebectarra munduko soziolinguistika ezagunenetakoa dugu. Laval-eko unibertsitateko irakaslea da gaur egun eta hainbat gobernurentzat ere egin izan du lan hizkuntz politikarako aholkulari gisa. Ehundaka artikulu eta dozenaka liburu idatzi du eta Euskal Herria ere izan du zenbaitetan aztergai. Luze ihardun dugu berarekin elkarrizketa giroan. Batez ere hemengo egoera eta arazoez ihardun dugu, baina baita guretzat ikaspide modura baliagarri gerta dakizkigukeen Kanada eta Irlandako esperientziez ere: hizkuntz trebetasunaren garrantzia, gizarte mugimenduak eta administrazioa, hizkuntzaren transmisioa familian, irakaskuntza,...
Horiek guztiak eta gehiago aurkituko ditu irakurleak, betiere maisuaren jakituriaren emaitza.
