This work deals with the question of literary and pictorial intertextuality in the theatre of Valle-Inclán, using, as an example, La cabeza del Bautista (The Head of the Baptist), a one-act work whose title refers to the evangelical story. Our study affirms that the work also maintains an intertextual dialogue with Salome, the one-act tragedy by Oscar Wilde. On the other hand, following the theoretical-methodological indications of Jan Białostocki, as well as those of Ernst H. Gombrich, it has been possible to prove that both works are intertextually related to the paintings of the Baroque and some of the end of 19th and beginning of 20th centuries.
