Este artículo se centra en una obra capital del Renacimiento europeo, El cortesano de Castiglione, y rastrea su influencia en la obra del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Partiendo del hecho de que el autor mestizo poseía este texto en su biblioteca, trataremos de recorrer todos los niveles en los que encontramos reminiscencias de la obra de Castiglione y, en especial, de la traducción llevada a cabo por Boscán en 1534. No se trata solo de la influencia que tuvo en tanto traducción, sino sobre todo como obra imprescindible que aglutinaba el ideario renacentista: la forma, el estilo y la actitud del perfecto cortesano inundan la vida y la obra del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
This text focuses on a chief masterpiece of the Renaissance, Castiglione’s The Book of the Courtier, and aims to identify its influence on Inca Garcilaso’s work. Considering that he had this book in his library, we will examine the different levels of influence of Castiglione’s work, especially the translation into Spanish by the poet Juan Boscán. This study will address not only the importance of the translator, but also the significance of a piece that brought together all the ideals of the Renaissance: the perfect courtier’s form, style and attitude are omnipresent in Inca Garcilaso’s work and life.
