The friendship that Maria Teresa Leon and Rafael Alberti maintained with Perla and Enrique Rotzait is just one of many examples of the strong links existing between the Spanish exiles of the Second Republic and the Argentine progressive Jewish community, this being a subject which has been very little researched. Eighty letters have been preserved –14 of which are attached– which illustrate this subject, and the friends’ personalities, as well as their meetings, cultural activities, editions, etc. These letters also illuminate the hidden history behind Memoria de la Melancolía.
