En el presente artículo se estudia la plegaria de doña Jimena en su contexto románico, fijando una especial atención a la mención de santa Susana. Dicha referencia se incluye en un elenco de personajes bíblicos a los que alude la mujer de Rodrigo en su oración, y cuya presencia recuerda la omnipotencia y misericordia divinas. Así, el poeta establece una serie de correspondencias entre dichos personajes y la situación y caracterización de Rodrigo, objeto de la súplica. De este modo, teniendo en cuenta dichas conexiones por un lado, y los numerosos ecos, analogías y anticipaciones de que está compuesto el poema castellano por otro, se plantea la posibilidad de que la mención de la casta Susana sea una prefiguración de La afrenta de Corpes, episodio con el que guarda notables semejanzas.
In this article we study the prayer of Jimena in its Romance context, paying a special attention to the mention of santa Susana. This reference is included in a group of biblical characters that Rodrigo’s wife mentions in her prayer, and it recalls divine omnipotence and mercy. By means of this strategy, the poet establishes different connections among these characters, and the situation and characterization of Rodrigo, the object of the prayer. Therefore, considering on the one hand these connections and on the other hand the numerous echoes, analogies and premoni-tions of which the Castilian poem is composed, it is possible that the mention of the chaste Susana may prefigure La afrenta de Corpes, an episode to which it bears a significant resemblance.
