Tomando como base una traducción del inglés al árabe sobre el bienestar de los animales, defiendo la necesidad de adaptar las traducciones no solo a la lengua, sino también a la cultura de llegada, lo cual puede tener repercusiones positivas para los propios originales. También arremeto contra el uso indiscriminado de la jerga y del concepto de «libertad».
Taking a translation about animal welfare from Arabic into English as a starting point, I make the case for adapting translations not only to the target language, but to the target culture as well. This, in turn, can provide useful feedback for the originals themselves. I also argue against the abusive use of jargon and of the concept of “freedom”.
