The article presents the results of a methodologically unusual research that combines philological tools with purely artistic ones, concerning the stagecraft and the scenic creation. The character of Lasciviousness in the Mystery Play The Holy Year in Madrid by Calderon is analyzed as a theological symbol and as an example of Baroque allegorical figure. The research is based both on textual analysis and the performance of the play by the delabarca Company between 2009 and 2012. It is presented as an example of an updated, effective and understandable staging of a Mystery Play, with fidelity to the purpose of the work and with an insight into the reception of the 21st Century audience: a path where tradition and innovation meet.
