This article analyzes the discrete configurations of cultural intimacy that informed and shaped the construction and forms of experience of Arab/Syrian-Lebanese ethnicity in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The analysis showed how ideals of intimacy, embodied experiences, and orientalist stereotypes were articulated in order to produce forms of distinction that were lived as exclusive of the Arab/Syrian-Lebanese community, while were communicated through cultural idioms that were produced by the Brazilian society.
Este artigo explora as diferentes configurações de intimidade cultural que informaram a construção e a vivência da etnicidade Árabe/Sírio-‐‑Libanesa no Rio de Janeiro, mostrando como ideais de familiaridade, experiências corporificadas e estereótipos orientalistas articularam-‐‑se de modo a produzir diferenças vivenciadas como exclusivas, que foram, por outro lado, comunicadas através de idiomas culturais produzidos pela propria sociedade brasileira.
