The Spanish of Argentina was carried by the conquerors that arrived from the Peninsula. It experienced changes in the different levels of the linguistic system, especially in the lexicon, as a result of its coexistence with indigenous languages.
Waves of immigrants, mainly Italian, during the second half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century also contributed to its conformation. The dialectal differences that exist in the territory nowadays, far from hindering communication, make it richer, due to the Castilian’s condition of simplex language, all of whose varieties are intelligible among themselves.
