En la primavera de 2017, la Delegación Territorial de Cultura de la J.A. nos encargaba la redacción de la “Memoria Justificativa para la inclusión en el C.G.P.H.A. del Sitio Histórico de la obra teatral de Fuenteovejuna y de su representación”, trabajo que concluía en septiembre de ese año. La investigación sobre esta epopeya dramática, como la definió Menéndez y Pidal, iba a arrojar luz sobre unos hechos que Lope manipularía años después magistralmente. El Fénix tuvo a mano diversos manuscritos en los que pudo encontrar el relato de lo ocurrido aquella terrible madrugada del 23 de abril de 1476, y que en parte trataremos de escrutar en las páginas que siguen
In the spring of 2017, the Delegation of Culture of the J.A. commissioned us to write the "Justification Report for the inclusion in the C.G.P.H.A of the Historical Site of the dramatic work of Fuenteovejuna and its representation", work that concluded in september of that year.
The investigation into this dramatic epic, as Menéndez Pidal defined it, was going to shed light on some facts that Lope would manipulate years later so masterfully. Lope had at hand several manuscripts in which he could find the story of what happened that terrible early morning of April 23, 1476 and that we will try to scrutinize in part in the following pages.
