I am very grateful to my Acehnese consultants, Saiful Mahdi (primary consultant) and Dian Rubianty, for their willingness to share all the Acehnese data. During the research, I benefitted from useful discussions with Mats Rooth, John Whitman, and especially Julie Legate, who first brought to my attention the Acehnese phenomenon discussed in this paper. The detailed comments and questions from two anonymous Studia Linguistica reviewers greatly helped improve both the content and presentation of the paper.
