Erotic lexicon is a quite recurrent topic in the researches on Spanish language. Nevertheless, it should be remarked that most of works dedicated to its study published in recent decades are purely lexicographical as they collect a wide range of terms related to sex and eroticism. The scarcity of publications focusing on the semantics of such vocabulary is surprising. Our paper is an attempt to fill this gap. The application of the premises of the conceptual metaphor theory by Lakoff and Johnson to the study of the semantics of 410 erotic expressions revealed some systematically of metaphorical concepts in terms of which the Spaniards perceive sexual act. In order to detect these metaphors, we propose a new methodology based on searching for visual motivation of their linguistic elaborations (if possible) and a thorough analyzing of the lexicographical definitions of the examined units that appear in dictionaries of general Spanish. In this work, we present the analytical method we have developed, trying to prove that it is possible to objectify the results of the researches which are part of the cognitive sciences and to recreate the process of the (re)construction of meaning encoded in the terms related to the erotic sphere.
