La metáfora del buen pastor fue un importante recurso retórico en la configuración del pensamiento político del Barroco hispano. Sin embargo, durante el siglo XVIII la metáfora del buen pastor perdió su importancia política, convirtiéndose en una imagen retórica de escasa consideración. Esta evolución se debe a la modificación de la estructura política de la Monarquía, la cual después de la Guerra de Sucesión había superado los problemas estructurales de las centurias anteriores.
The good shepherd metaphor was an important rhetorical image in the construction of spanish political thought in the 17th century. Nevertheless, during the 18th century the metaphor of the good shepherd lost its political importance, becoming a rhetorical image of little consideration. This evolution is due to the modification of the political structure of the monarchy, which after the War of the Spanish Succession had overcome the structural problems of the previous centuries.
