It is usual to consider than the evolution of Spanish novel at the end of Franquismo is the passage from social realism full of ideological inquisitiveness to a new avant-garde formalism where form captures the whole attention. Nevertheless, the difference between the two kinds of novel is in our opinion an essential issue rather than a formal one. The interest about form is the symptom of another deeper anxiety connected to the cultural discourse in the contemporary period:
the disturbing feeling of reality being something uncertain and language not being an instrument capable of communicating the truth.
