Ramón Caralt Sanromá, actor, businessman and author, gained the respect, in the early 1910s, through his work introducing crime melodrama in the Madrid scene, thanks to the support of the theatrical journalistic critique. He accomplished this through his substantial repertoire of fifty pieces –originals, translations or ”arreglos”– starred by crime novel heroes of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Two decades later, in the 1930-1931 theatrical season, Caralt turned the Pavón Theatre into a reference site for the crime melodrama, thanks to the efficient usage of his invariable repertoire.
