The purpose of this paper is to outline the five major facets of iconicity hitherto largely neglected or even misunderstood in language studies: 1) endophoric iconicity, 2) the nature of the object iconically represented in language, 3) the nature of the icon in relation to this object, 4) the iconicity of mental images, and 5) the omnipresence of iconicity in language.
