La fiesta de Día de Muertos en las comunidades indígenas de México celebra el regreso temporáneo al mundo terrestre de los difuntos. Cada año para el fin del mes de octubre y en particular entre los días del 31 de octubre y 1 y 2 de noviembre las poblaciones indígenas de la región de La Montaña de Guerrero organizan rituales y fiestas para sus muertos. Sin embargo, esta temporada del año representa también el fin del ciclo agrícola del maíz y el aproximarse de la cosecha. Este artículo describe algunas de las ofrendas en comida elaboradas por los nahuas de la Montaña con el maíz nuevo. Técnicas especiales de cocción se ocupan para platillos de comidas rituales como los tamales nejos y las galletas chatos, preparados con maíz nuevo. Los nahuas elaboran ritualmente comida como los tamales nejos para ofrendarla a los difuntos que regresan a sus hogares. Entre los nahuas de Guerrero el ciclo agrícola está estrechamente vinculado al ciclo de las fiestas. El procedimiento de los ingredientes y las especiales técnicas de cocción están relacionadas con las creencias en los muertos, el cultivo del maíz y la regeneración de la vida.
The feast of Día de Muertos in the indigenous communities of Mexico celebrates the temporary return to the earth of the deceased family members. Every year at the end of the month of October and, in particular, on the days of 31th of October, and 1st and 2nd of November the indigenous peoples of the region Montaña de Guerrero organize rites and celebrations for their own dead. However, that period also represents the end of the annual cycle of corn and the time of the harvest. This article focuses on some of the offerings of food based on the new corn, prepared by the Nahuas of the Montaña. Special techniques of cooking are used for ritual food like tamales nejos and galletas chatos, prepared with the new corn. The Nahuas ritually elaborate food like tamales nejos in order to offer these to the deceased who come back home as a form of a gift . The agriculture cycle for the Nahuas of Guerrero is closely linked to the cicle of festivals. The processing of ingredients and the special cooking techniques are related to the beliefs in the dead, the cultivation of maize, and the regeneration of life.
