This investigation is an approach to Enrique Lihn’s Diario de muerte from the perspective of self-referential texts and their relationship with the subject’s memory. Choose the last book written by the Chilean and analyze it under the textual category of intimate diary —by the assigned title— enables the confirmation of something that Lihn had been exposing throughout his work: the impossibility of language to express and, according to this reading, to fix the memory. Diary of death, in this sense, does not share anything with a diary of life, since it is not limited to the daily nor does it enunciate intimacies that could be protected there for posterity.
What it does do, is present reflections, those of the dying man who writes. Starting from some questions, we will develop two axes: the relation of the subject with death and the complaint of the speaker against poetic language
