Innovaciones léxicas en la obra de Sir Walter Ralegh "The discoverie of the large, rich and Bewtiful Empyre of Guiana" (1596)

    Durante los siglos XVI y XVII se conjugaron una serie de factores que dieron lugar a un enorme crecimiento y expansión del léxico de la lengua inglesa. En rita efervescencia léxica jugaron un papel muy importante figuras de renombre que con su ingenio y prestigio no sólo acuñaron sino popularizaron gran cantidad de nuevas lexías. En este trabajo proponemos el estudio de un autor poco conocido como neologista, Sir Walter Ralegh, y en particular, de un libro de viajes que gozó de gran popularidad y difusión en su época, "The Discoverie of the Large", "Rich and Bewtiful Empyre of Guiana" (1596).

    During the 16th and 17th centuries the English lexicón underwent an enormous expansión due to a combinatíon of factors. Very well-known authors contributed to this lexical effervescence either coining or introducing new words in their works. It is our intention to show how Sir Ralter Ralegh also played a role in this process through the study of one of his works: The Discoverie of the Targe, BJch and Bewtiful Empyre of Guiana (1596), a very popular travel book at the time. The discovery of a new reality and his contact with Spanish explorers led him to present his readers with new vocabulary.
