Galdós, cuya producción literaria coincide en el tiempo con el ciclo del género chico, reflexionó sobre este moderno tipo de teatro en artículos de prensa, lo evocó en su obra novelística, lo inspiró y prestó temas, personajes y situaciones, y recibió reiteradamente el homenaje a su obra y su persona desde los escenarios. Este trabajo recoge ejemplos de todo ello.
