This article analyzes the evolution of theatrical humor in Lope de Rueda´s Pasos, which necessarily responds to the double nature of his work: the stage and the printed reality. Many informants of the period emphasize that Lope de Rueda´s theater was based on a physical, fun, racy and sometimes irreverent pattern; a model which cannot be seen in its printed version. A possible explanation lies in the aesthetic adaptation to the new medium, which is ruled by the key concepts of decorum and discretion. This is, undoubtedly, an example of soft censorship on behalf of the publisher Timoneda.
