Tibor Sekelj, explorador, etnólogo, antropólogo, periodista y escritor de padres húngaros fue un ciudadano del mundo. Además de pasar gran parte de su vida entre serbios, croatas y húngaros, no le interesaban ni las fronteras ni las nacionalidades. Fue hablante y defensor de la lengua universal, el esperanto, y publicó libros en esta lengua, así como en serbio y español. Su vida aventurera inició en Argentina, donde pasó quince años realizando viajes de investigación a territorios habitados por comunidades indígenas, sobre todo en Brasil. Sus primeros libros publicados trataban sobre sus viajes y estudios antropológicos y los siguieron una serie de publicaciones relacionadas con sus viajes posteriores en Europa, Asia y África. En este ensayo, mi objetivo será presentar los vínculos de este viajero infatigable con los indígenas de la selva brasileña, sus viajes de exploración y su trabajo antropológico, basándome en sus libros, artículos de prensa y el material legado que guarda su viuda en una colección privada.
Tibor Sekelj, explorer, ethnologist, anthropologist, journalist and writer of Hungarian origin, was a citizen of the world. In addition to spending much of his life among Serbs, Croats and Hungarians, he was not interested in borders or nationalities. He was a speaker and defender of the universal language, Esperanto, and published books in this language, as well as in Serbian and Spanish. His adventurous life began in Argentina, where he spent fifteen years doing research trips to territories inhabited by indigenous communities, especially in Brazil. His first published books dealt with his travels and anthropological studies and they were followed by a series of publications related to his later travels in Europe, Asia and Africa. In this essay, my aim is to present the links of this untiring traveler with the indigenous people of the Brazilian jungle, his exploratory trips and his anthropological work, based on his books, press articles and the legacy materials that his widow keeps in a private collection
