Este artículo pretende mostrar que el Lazarillo de Tormes es una novela jurídica escrita por un jurista tole- dano de sólida formación humanística y erasmista. Salvo las palabras iniciales del narrador o relator, el resto de la novela es un testimonio de descargo de Lázaro de Tormes del delito de adulterio cometido por su mu- jer y el arcipreste de San Salvador dentro del proceso penal abierto de oficio por un juez. El testimonio que escucha Vuestra Merced, el abogado que defiende al arcipreste, y que va siendo transcrito por un escribano es la prueba clave para dictar sentencia.
This article wants to show that Lazarillo de Tormes is a juristic novel written by a Toledan jurist with a solid humanistic and Erasmian background. Except for the initial words of the narrator or ‘relator’, the rest of the novel is a testimony of defense by Lázaro de Tormes of the crime of adultery committed by his wife and the archpriest of San Salvador, within the criminal process opened ex officio by a judge. The testimony that Vuestra Merced, the lawyer who defends the archpriest, hears and which is being transcribed by a notary public is the key evidence to pass sentence.
