Based on a group of texts on stone-cutting, building and architecture collected in the Dictionary of Renaissance Science and Technology, this paper offers an overview of the main characteristics of the terminology of Renaissance stone-cutting. Thus it examines the peculiarities of the geometric vocabulary of quarry workers, the Mediterranean and Oriental origin of numerous borrowed terms, and the process by which new meanings were generated in this lexicon.
A partir de un grupo de textos de cantería, construcción y arquitectura del Diccionario de la Ciencia y de la Técnica del Renacimiento, se ofrece una panorámica sobre las principales características del léxico de la cantería renacentista. Así, se muestran las peculiaridades del vocabulario geométrico de los canteros, la procedencia mediterránea y oriental de los numerosos préstamos y los procedimientos de neología de sentido aplicados en este registro.
