Although Cervantes has traditionally been described as an uneducated person, the analysis of the rhetorical speeches of his characters shows that he was perfectly familiar with the rhetoric of his time, and that he knew how to make the most of it. In this work, two rhetorical speeches (one deliberative and the other judicial) delivered by characters from the second part of Don Quixoteare analyzed, showing that they brilliantly use both rational and emotional resources to persuade their recipients. For thisreason, the recovery of rhetorical norms and the analysis of their use by Cervantes is essential to understand in depth the nature and mastery of the speeches of his characters
