Más de cien años recorren la historia del Cine-Teatro Smart Palace, uno de los espacios emblemáticos para la comprensión de la historia del teatro argentino del siglo XX hasta nuestros días. Por ello, este estudio toma un amplio espectro, desde su inauguración en 1914 hasta 2014, para analizar sus diferentes etapas y variadas ubicaciones en la Avenida Corrientes de Buenos Aires: del Smart-Blanca Podestá (1921; 1967), pasando por el Teatro Cómico-Lola Membrives (1927; 1978), hasta el actual Multiteatro (2001). Tomando como eje la historia de este representativo lugar, podremos comprender la evolución y características del teatro argentino: su afirmación en las primeras décadas del siglo XX; su relación con la escena española y el influjo europeo; las estéticas aplaudidas en cada época; la influencia de los acontecimientos sociopolíticos... En definitiva, descorriendo el telón del Smart descubriremos cien años de historia y de teatro en Argentina.
The Cine-Teatro Smart Palace is over one hundred years. This is an emblematic space to examine the history of Argentinean Theater from the 20th century to our days. Thus, this article focuses on a one-hundred-year period: from 1914 to 2014. Our paper analyses the different periods of this space in its several locations in the Avenue Corrientes de Buenos Aires: from Smart-Blanca Podestá (1921; 1967) to the present Multiteatro (2001), including the Teatro Cómico-Lola Membrives (1927; 1978). Throughout the history of this emblematic space, we can understand the evolution and characteristics of Argen-tinean Theater: its beginnings and first decades; its relationship with the Spanish stage and the European influence; the popular aesthetics of each age; the influence of socio-political events... In short, if we draw the curtain of the Smart, we will discover a hundred years of Theater and Argentinean History.
