Pico y Canente is a mythological comedy, included in the Fiesta que la serenísima Infanta doña María Teresa de Austria mandó hacer, en celebración de la salud de la Reina, in 1656 in the Salón de Reinos and after in the Coliseo of the Buen Retiro. It tells a somewhat atypical fable, having its origin in pre-Roman Latin folklore, but it is fully inscribed in the codes of the genre. The present work aims to analyze the use of space in all its dimensions —fictional, scenic and spectacular— by the different agents that made the representation of this work possible: from the choice and articulation made by the playwrights to contextualize the action, passing through the places traveled by the actors in the different scenes or the spaces designed by the set designer and materialized through the stage and the acting work, until reaching the spatial illusion achieved in the imagination of the spectators, to form the signifier and the meaning of a successful theatrical sign that we intend to unravel.
