El siguiente artículo tiene el objetivo de presentar diversos autores norteamericanos, como Washington Irving, que se han interesado por la literatura romántica española. Existe un interés creciente a lo largo del siglo XIX por las literaturas europeas, al ser consideradas exóticas y llenas de contrastes. Se tiene en cuenta y se revaloriza la cultura, la historia y obras clásicas como El Quijote. Se pretende reivindicar, de esta manera, la figura de los hispanistas por su aportación a difundir una imagen positiva de España.
The aim of the following article is to present several American authors, such as Washington Irving, who have been interested in Spanish romantic literature. There is a growing interest throughout the 19th century for European literatures, being considered exotic and full of contrasts. Culture, history and classical works such as Don Quixote are taken into account and revalued. It is intended to claim, in this way, the figure of the Hispanists for their contribution to spreading a positive image of Spain.
