Francisco Márquez Villanueva fue primeramente profesor de inglés en su ciudad natal, Sevilla, y más adelante estudió Filología Hispánica. Se hizo, por tanto, hispanista y cervantista, y la situación en España en el siglo XX lo obligó a exiliarse a Estados Unidos, donde falleció. Fundó la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas y la Cervantes Society of America y durante su trayectoria escribió más de veinte libros y doscientos artículos, aportando más a la investigación hispanista. Como es evidente, muchos escritos los dedicó a analizar el Quijote, y también prestó atención a otros autores del Siglo de Oro español. Escribió sobre las religiones y la represión dictatorial.
Francisco Márquez Villanueva was first an English teacher in his hometown, Seville, and later studied Hispanic Philology. He became, therefore, a Hispanist and a Cervantist, and the situation in Spain in the 20th century forced him to go into exile in the United States, where he died. He founded the Canadian Association of Hispanists and the Cervantes Society of America and during his career he wrote more than twenty books and two hundred articles, contributing more to Hispanic research. As is evident, many of his writings were dedicated to analyzing Don Quixote, and he also paid attention to other authors of the Spanish Golden Age. He wrote about religions and dictatorial repression.
