Ana María Matute fue una novelista española de la posguerra muy destacada. Desde su infancia fue una ávida lectora y una escritora precoz. Le encantaban los cuentos clásicos europeos y, de adolescente, se interesó por los autores españoles de su época y de la anterior, así como por el Quijote y otras obras de escritores europeos. Con tan solo diecinueve años publicó su primera novela y enseguida ganó algunos premios literarios de renombre. Esta necrología repasa sus novelas y cuentos más importantes y menciona que fue la tercera mujer en entrar en la Real Academia Española. Otros reconocimientos posteriores fueron el Premio Cervantes y el Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas. Ana María Matute was a prominent post-war Spanish novelist. She from her childhood she was an avid reader and a precocious writer. She loved classic European tales and, as a teenager, she became interested in Spanish authors of her time and before, as well as Don Quixote and other works by European writers. She was only nineteen years old when she published her first novel and right away she won some renowned literary awards. This obituary reviews her most important novels and stories and mentions that she was the third woman to enter the Royal Spanish Academy. Other subsequent recognitions were the Cervantes Prize and the National Prize for Spanish Letters.
