We will explain the structure of the database «CIRCE: Early Modern Theatre on Screen». This database collects relevant information on film and television adaptations of plays from the Early Modern Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and Italian theatrical traditions. Based on the EMOTHE and ARTELOPE databases, CIRCE aims to facilitate the establishment of patterns of connection between audiovisual adaptations of the five theatrical traditions of the period. Drawing on the theoretical principles of digital humanities and on adaptation theory, we will explain the four main fields with which we expect the database to be both robust and flexible: (1) «Basic Information», (2) «Creatives», (3) «Adaptational Strategies and Procedures» and (4) «Related Texts». We will provide insights on the information contained in each of these fields and offer some examples that will allow us to understand their usefulness.
