This article studies the diachronic labels used by non-academic nineteenth century dictionaries, contrasting the differences with those employed by the Real Academia. The article also presents the variety of labels used, and their different values in each dictionary. With regard to neologisms, it is important to notice the novelty of the label neol., never before used in Spanish lexicography, and the other methods used to characterize this group of words.
